More Addams Family: A Call To Chat

First off I need to vent my spleen about something that is making this whole universe ill:

Bash-Culture.

I am sick to death of this phenomenon. I can’t get any chat about almost anything out of anyone because the first thing that comes up is how much one form of whatever is hated. Why? What is the point?

Is it because we’ve crossed so many boundaries already and the final thing left to hate-on is entertainment?

Is it because these social networks have engendered the entire population back into a school playground where every individual feels the need to vocalize louder than the rest?

Is there some inherent need to put on some swagger to feel superior to each other?

Has the Information Age made information itself so convenient that no one wants to bother learning a damn thing anymore?

All of the above?

All I know is I can’t get a dialogue going about The Addams Family with almost anyone because something always comes up to interrupt it; Some version of The Addams Family that was disapproved of. There is barely any practice in conversation that doesn’t adhere to despising some little piece of it to death.

This doesn’t help get any new work done. There appears to be no knowledgeable fan with conversation skills within easy reach of me. It’s the same damn problem as it’s been with lovers of the Dark Shadows romantic pairings I’ve put together all over again: Nothing but photos and little friggin’ happy stickers…

What I understand of The Addams Family is it was begun as a scene of panels by Charles Addams. Addams’ first drawing, a sketch of a window washer, ran in The New Yorker on February 6, 1932, and his cartoons ran regularly in the magazine from 1938, when he drew the first in the series that came to be called The Addams Family, until his death. He was a freelancer throughout that time.

Deardeaddays
The Addams Family television series began after David Levy, a television producer, approached Addams with an offer to create it with a little help from the humorist. All Addams had to do was give his characters names and more characteristics for the actors to use in portrayals. The series ran on ABC for two seasons, from 1964 to 1966.

1960's Addams
Those old drawings were more macabre than the 1960’s television show of The Addams Family I am currently watching and taking notes on. There was more comic hilarity in the television show and very likely because of what that television audience in those years were allowed to view. A sign of the times.

Later on, the films of The Addams Family in the 1990’s incorporated this darker infusion of The Addams Family, and even began with a direct take from the comic of old, pouring boiling oil on a party of Christmas carolers. These films were not my introduction to The Addams Family but they were the strong pull I had as new releases in my teens when I was already attracted to the spooky and bizarre as a whole.

Movie Portrait
For that am I supposed to suffer? Am I supposed to have to wallow in a cave for what I saw due to my age and environment? Do I continue to have to avoid this topic because anyone who enjoys those films, which are over twenty years old by now, are also going to be yelled at for enjoying them rather than the television show which was inspired by a series of one panel comics in The New Yorker of the 1930’s?

planet gone mad
Perhaps no one is left who might have preferred the New Yorker panel comics to the damn 1960’s television show! (If you are, I’m ready to hear your complaints! And only yours!)

The_Addams_family_cartoon
I’ve yet to hear any troubles with what came after the 1990’s Addams Family films due to their success, which is “The Addams Family: The Animated Series” (1992–1993), without which I may not have had the pleasure of Automne Archer’s company and help! She watched those cartoons, then the films, THEN the television show of the 1960’s in that order. Did I ever harp on her about that?

No.

Why?

Because I am NOT interested in what is hated, I’m interested in what is loved. And what you love about it!

What purpose does any of this holier-than-thou posturing serve? Just seems like a bunch of apes beating their chests to show off. I will admit I did quite a bit of that from my junior-high school to college years. And you know what I did after that?

I moved on!

I distinctly looked at the wealth of books, movies, audio shows and anything else that I liked in particular and I stuck to those. I became very aware that I had a ton of choices to pick from. So? I picked what I wanted to pick!

trinity-college-old-library
And what happened after that? I became very open to what other people were choosing for themselves, not because I wanted to imbibe what they were enjoying but because I liked listening to what they had good to say about it. I turn down offers to watch or read things. I’m more interested in what that friend or individual got out of what they enjoyed.

Unfortunately, nowadays it’s a massive secret where the heck people are hiding out to dare discuss what they enjoy. The internet has become a battleground of hate and constant dismissal. Anything those pesky advertisers can do to grab your attention at some scandal or idiotic griping over nothing. It’s all programming, you know. It’s all just to soak your attention and get you to purchase more that you don’t need. And the upshot is always reverting back to that sense of irritation with something that has an off-switch within easy reach.

Hence? This log entry. I implore any lovers of The Addams Family to reach me and discuss any and all facets that you love about it. Maybe you’re rusty, yes, but I’m fed up with the hate. The Addams Family is not about that. They symbolize the most diverse and loving aspects in each of us, and they do it in a spooky way, which I love. Whatever Addams Family you like most? I want to hear all about it! I don’t want stickers, I don’t want bravos.

 I want CHAT!

Thank you.

Episode 15, One Scene A Day Now Becomes 2-3 Characters A Day…

WADSWORTH: Sir? I’ve made an effort to clean your staring window if you’d like to make use of it.

Thanks Wadsworth. I think the clarity is coming from your astute considerations. As aforesaid, in my 14th intro, I’m now doing many of the voices for this radio play separately. Today I listened intently to Jonathan Frid’s performance of Barnabas Collins. I found various inflections I might have missed. He did go through some trouble to bring those H’s in where A’s were applicable to the standard American speech and I also made a concerted effort not to lower my own voice. Jonathan Frid’s voice deserves higher tones of inflection and if it doesn’t sound male enough I can lower the pitch on sentences or various words. I felt good about that.

For Episode 15: A Blundering Succubus, Barnabas Collins had to swat away The Collinsport Fly (another breaking through the 4th wall which I haven’t done for a while), speak with his beloved Josette through Maggie Evans in Josette’s room, try to determine who Kitty Soames is or was, look with her out the window at Willie and Sarah interacting, take Maggie with him to Elizabeth’s family gathering at the Main House to discover she was going on an extended vacation and then meet with…

Cousin Lily

Ah, her casual assertions about vampires certainly gave him the willies!

One of the reasons he even goes into that study where Maggie and Lily are having a chat is because of the coffee they are drinking. Elizabeth tempts him:

ELIZABETH: Cousin Barnabas…(pointedly) it’s Borgia.

BARNABAS: Who?

ELIZABETH: The coffee blend… it’s Borgia…

BARNABAS: (snorts) I see! You really wanted to get me in there, didn’t you?

ELIZABETH: Yes…

And? I have tried SO desperately to find out whether or not this might be accurate, either for Barnabas Collins OR Jonathan Frid. I remember there was a Q & A KLS was holding on a website years ago. I tried to ask, “What coffee was his favourite?” De nada! 😛

After that I called our Auntie. I think I’ll save that conversation for another blog post but it was good. She pretty much agreed with me about the laziness and troubles I’d been having. More complex than that, but worth a blog entry I think.

Hecubus can you hear me

I am now going through Sir Simon Milligan and Manservant Hecubus’ lines which I re-performed a few days ago. They seemed fine on the demo but I just felt like I should try it again. If anyone has updated themselves with these guys via youtube you might have noticed I posted appreciation to the lady who made it easier for me. (I believe in saying “thank you”. I do not simply like-click shit. lol!) Currently I’m going through those new lines and seeing which ones make the cut. I am leaving a little extra in via stuff I can’t decide on. So far Hecubus’ old lines are remaining here and there. Mostly it will be the new stuff that stays.

Also was on Skype with Cara Mia over the holiday weekend. I read her the new (actually old) scene with Morticia, Victoria and Grandmama Addams. This was excellent because I have a hard time with the Addams Family and need the help. I want to make sure all the characters are accurate. When I got to a line via Grandmama or Morticia I’d ask, “Does that sound like her or them?”

“Oh, yes! It does!” she would answer. *happy sigh*

Then I reached the end of the scene and said, “That’s it.”

“Oh!” she said, “Okay… hey, wow! That scene was really, incredibly good!”

Morticia and Victoria

Bless you, Cara Mia. Bless you. ❤

The Halloween DJ is… ALIVE… but… may not be able to help. :(

Hey Casper, I have been looking for you all over the web. I hope you’re okay. I tried your old email account. Then I couldn’t find your home address. I wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t live there anymore. But I found this email address on an old invite you sent when I was looking for your home address. I have been working my tail off trying to engage college DJs and even though you likely don’t DJ anymore I thought you might at least know someone. We still have no car and it’s been such a rough year. I’ve been producing a radio series online and it’s got spooky characters galore and tons of humour, thousands of downloads but barely any response. My husband and I have spent thousands on this thing but without listener participation it has lead me into some of the darkest realms and rages of temper in my entire life. I pray you’re all right. Please help. Daryl

Date: Monday… Subject: “Re: Casper? Please tell me you’re not truly a ghost now…” Hey Daryl! I’m sorry I’ve been so hard to track down lately! I’m not on any social networks these days and without making any official announcement, I’ve gradually shifted over to this email out of frustration with the other. I’ve been really busy lately and behind on just about everything… thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear you’re having a rough time. What’s this new project all about? Hmm, I’m not really sure if I can help. I don’t DJ anymore, except maybe once a year… there’s one fellow at the station that usually invites me back to do a show in October. Other than that I’m pretty out of touch with college radio and to be honest, quite disillusioned! But feel free to tell me more about what you have in mind. Happy Haunting and be sure to say hi to your husband, Casper

CASPER! (Yes. I literally screamed!) Hallelujah I hope! Oh my gosh. I almost sent you one the postcards I made for this project but I lost your old address in my bag. Bah… probably not where you are now anyway. I applaud you for staying off social network sites. They’ve been eating me alive. (Still no car.) Not only that, the fans of my base work have eaten me alive in the last 10 months. They get my product but most refuse to discuss it with me, many unfamiliar names simply like-click. GAH! I need younger people. Now how to describe this fright of frights we’ve parboiled in. Imagine… if you will… almost all the 1960’s spooks coming together, or sending help from afar… That is, these folks:

Yes…

*WEEP*

I went there.

And I couldn’t take it!

And although I have wonderful fans of my horizon-goal marriage novel (which ended up being erotica if you can believe I had that talent… I didn’t.) but the radio drama is a comedienne’s worst nightmare! Funny as Hell without hearing anyone’s laughter. I have truly spiraled out of control from a neglect of inordinate talent, hard work and money with almost no reward, serious negativity, stalkers trying to control it, trolls attacking the erotic & hopeful wind-up novel, and people who have despised Barnabas Collins for longer than I’ve been alive for not reciprocating Dr. Julia Hoffman… GOOD LORD!

I just listened to all of these characters the best I could to give them all what they wanted without invalidating each other. Anyone real who’s stepped in to help so far has either disappeared, been fragmented by communicating their enjoyment, felt guilt they didn’t do it with the aged text version for years so they just keep silent, had a fit over Endora being in there, or have been so negative and aloof that it doesn’t support me at all. Even 99 % of my closest friends won’t help me with this. They’re all eaten up by device and internet distractions.

Now I’m trying to contact college radio stations and getting either nothing, ooo, maybe or, “Hey, that’s copyrighted and…” *sigh* Noooooo…. it’s ME! I’m doing all the voices, acting, writing, editing, audio splicing. I can’t make a profit! If it was illegal even people merely writing this stuff would get sued. (And I can make copies with NO intros for air play. Intros are podcast. Most people do NOT understand this. Ugh!)

I sure *will* say hi to my husband for you! The main good this whole thing has done is healing our marriage. Please…  please… PLEASE tell me you are either for or have absolutely NO angst about a reincarnation of Josette Dupres being an okay solution to this spiky banged weirdo’s troubles!

P.S. Help? Of any kind? Pretty please? Um… boo?

Welcome

Why “The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows” project will take years to complete:

I was recently asked why “The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows” project was going to take years to accomplish. Considering it’s a creation interrupting and condensing the original story line while adding bonus elements from several different fandoms both Dark Shadows and those characters and storylines require careful analysis. Currently only 15 episodes are written, 9 are performed and finished. 16 & 17 are mapped out and 18 came to me in a flash after my previous podcast of trouble was “aired”.

By Episode 18 of “The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows” The Jennings time period is necessary to focus on bringing the 1897 time period of Dark Shadows forward after their Turn of The Screw storyline completes. This is the part we have little knowledge of due to the fact Netflix’s available chronology was fragmented and youtube could only give us so much.

The hope with this project is to reach The Leviathans time frame during Kitty Soames retcon existence as Josette Dupres. (Maggie Evans will retain both memories in the same way John Sullivan retains his various life memories as shown in the film “Frequency”.) Then working in Dr. Who to wipe them off with his unique abilities which are *obviously* up to the task considering THOSE GOONS! ^_^

Meanwhile all the other characters problems will have to be dealt with accordingly: Elizabeth and Victoria, Quentin and company in 1897 (Heaven HELP US!) as well as how to find redemption for Angelique and get her mind off of Mister B. By the time of the Kitty/Josette retcon the plan is the mould the story back to the 1960’s wherein everything will begin to calm down and we can see these people in a renewed splendour never before known but glimpsed at in “Margaret Josette Dupres (a novel)” or “200 Years Away” (T-rated version of Margaret Josette Dupres).

In order to accomplish this many, many, many episodes will have to be devised and mapped out in the same manner as the original 15, similar aspects and problems in Dark Shadows, but explored and solved with the help of the new band of Shadows they have acquired and what they’ve learned in the interruption from their guidance.

In order for this to really take off I will need the power source by which much creative inspiration stems: enthusiasm from the audience. This is not only for my own personal needs but from what I’ve seen has happened to deform our humanity in the last decade from interpersonal communication: this is something many people need to learn or re-learn so it could help others step back and take control of their own abilities.

I would not consider myself a conscientious human being if I let this fold under the option of “Just the way things are”. The mere ideology of that motto has never improved life on this planet and just the opposite is in many cases the reason we enjoy the conveniences we take for granted in this day and age. I also believe that if this change in complacency is not dealt with we as a species will continue to allow ourselves to be distracted and distractible with what’s already been put in place for us to absorb in a rather automatic fashion, as if we have no will of our own to shut off what we don’t like and tune in to what we do or what helps us.

The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows is about solving problems, after all. 😉

I’ve already been told by the few fans of my work that have been willing to speak that workshop intros will be a good idea along with updates on the story and plugs for other stories and insights. I trust my audience & am pleased they like the idea of these workshops and appreciate the intros.

The other troubling aspect is how much podcast space costs. It can be increased but for 100 or more episodes of “The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows” I’m not sure how much that will be or how much the site can hold. Back up options are already considered but not necessary right now.

Meanwhile, I’ll be in the works of completing, “Margaret Josette Dupres” & “200 Years Away” for publication which may also spread the word via book buyers and what not or perhaps any opposition I might face in that endeavour could also spread the word. I’d rather it be the success rather than any opposition.

So for the question: Why would it take years to complete “The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows” project?

Well… how long did the original “Dark Shadows” daytime drama take anyway?Image
