Angelique Loves Quentin

(Or at least wants him.)

I’d been meaning to share this snippet from episode 794 for some weeks now. It shows a great sign of Angelique making a change in her personality.

There is some information Barnabas brings to her attention to which she is clearly trying to figure out how she can re-establish her hold on Quentin.

For Barnabas her understanding was just manipulating a ton of people in his household in the 1790’s, whereas with Quentin it’s a matter of maintaining something he, Quentin, personally needs. So she doesn’t wish to give away what she knows or has. (Still! That’s different in her understanding of how love works. Little by little!)

Angelique has bargained Quentin into marrying her. When Barnabas realises this he tells her,

“You’re doing this to spite me…”

Which, yes, Barnabas has every right to feel. He’s already been down similar roads with her via his family in the time of his original birth and life, as well as her Cassandra role in the 1960’s earlier according to their chronology. Barnabas has absolutely no reason to trust Angelique.

But then? Angelique confesses,

“I’m doing it because I’m BORED! With you, with the future and the past and the present. I’ve bided my time. I’ve waited and waited, I’m sick of waiting!”

(Yeh, I hear that!)

“Life, even for people like us, Barnabas, was meant to be lived. I intend to start living it and there’s nothing you can do to stop me.”

It is at this point I say:

That’s the Angelique I expected when we got through all her damn tantrums and manipulations as a clueless villain!

Go for Quentin, girlfriend.

For you?

He’s perfect!

Angelique + Quentin

I have set my more current sights on this pairing.

Because it’s kickin’

Think about it.

You get to 1897 and of course Quentin is wondering about Angelique as he wonders about all women.

The thing is with this one is that…

She returns the interest!

And throughout the madhouse that is 1897?

Who does Angelique request help from in gaining Quentin Collins love?

Who could Angelique possibly want to help her in this escapade to win Quentin towards her matrimonially?

The last person you would expect Angeilque to request this help from..

Barnabas Collins.

That’s what showed me:

This IS the answer.

So I am aiming my sights on episodes in the mid 700’s to 882 right now.

What Quentin decides to do in the interim before reconfirming his interest in Angelique by the 1960’s?

I’m not sure.

All I know is that there is both a mutual attraction and chemistry.

The other thing I know is the amount of their previous lovers are a bit, well, uncountable.

The experience these two share makes them quite compatible!

I am looking forward to the challenge!

Off I go to 1897!

(June 2020) “I Got The Memo”

2020 June Update1

Another oceanside chat for people who enjoy them. Apparently quite a few people enjoy them!

I get started talking about a pen friend and a phone friend, good stuff and various reasons things in communications have been clogged.

General pep-talk about the current upbringing in kids to the previous upbringing I experienced with pretty crappy distractions that weren’t as bad as now, but still pretty bad.

I make it very clear here that I never wanted a parasocial relationship with my listeners. I wanted a social one. And? I still do!

However much the technology changed to alter anyone’s sociability? It didn’t change mine!

Why letter writing is very, very, important, even now. How the friends I’ve finally made in this have rewarded me with great company. (The whole reason I began this series.)

A little study time with a DS episode, a wee, wee bit of Magda… and then: “*Spoiler*”: The phases of Quentin Collins, very basic: 1969; Evil Ghost (dead), 1897; Playboy (alive), Killed (dead), Zombie (dead/alive), Not Zombie (alive), Werewolf Curse (still alive), Magic Portrait takes curse and then he is immortal (indefinitely alive). Then fun chat about Kitty Soames.

More on the topic of the non-canon romance, Julia/Barnabas phenomenon. Very calmly expressed. As well as my experience with healthy rejections and unhealthy reactions over the years. (A little more Jo March too.)

Sprinkled in this are thoughts on a new “hero” of mine: Tim Wu. (I’m just not sure where all I mention him, pardon.)

I wrap up with sober thoughts over more concentration on maintaining the help, pulling away from commercial sites, and focusing more on personal life, correspondence and friendship.

The Love, The Gratitude, and The Trust: The Baby is Born…

Yep, lots of characters, birth and all the rest. I keep wondering if I should remove the cigar comment Willie makes here. (Maybe it doesn’t fit?) Anyway, the chapter is done. Hit the link below if you would like to read it. And as Mr. Marley says, “Let’s get together and feel all right…” ❤

By the way, checking this through the kindle was a small portion of hell. Guess what everyone? They decided to update software on the kindle fire! So while I was on the phone trying to get the blasted thing to work again the lady on the phone helping me was great and I could hear in the background other voices helping a ton of people through the same thing! I guess the new kindle fire’s software is as hard to bring into the world as our baby Sarah. >_<

Sarah and Willie

One Love… One Heart…

Let’s get together and feel all right.

Hear the children cryin’ (One Love!);

Hear the children cryin’ (One Heart!),

Sayin’: give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;

Sayin’: let’s get together and feel all right. Wo wo-wo wo-wo!

Let them all pass all their dirty remarks (One Love!);

There is one question I’d really love to ask (One Heart!):

Is there a place for the hopeless sinner,

Who has hurt all mankind just to save his own beliefs?

One Love! What about the one heart? One Heart!

What about it all ? Let’s get together and feel all right

As it was in the beginning (One Love!);

So shall it be in the end (One Heart!),

All right!

Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;

Let’s get together and feel all right.

One more thing!

Let’s get together to fight this Holy Armagiddyon (One Love!),

So when the Man comes there will be no, no doom (One Song!).

Have pity on those whose chances grows t’inner;

There ain’t no hiding place from the Father of Creation.

Sayin’: One Love! What about the One Heart? (One Heart!)

What about the – ? Let’s get together and feel all right.

I’m pleadin’ to mankind! (One Love!);

Oh, Lord! (One Heart) Wo-ooh!

Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;

Let’s get together and feel all right.

Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right;

Let’s get together and feel all right.

The Shame of Barnabas Collins…

I have two scholastic Josette=Kitty=Maggie helpers who have been pressed upon with so much stress and obligation that it’s lead me to find other people as sources of comfort. This isn’t such a good idea but some interesting discussions came out of it.

As some of you know I’ve been working over a month to finish Episode 12 of The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows. Not only is it detailing many distinct vocal impressions and inflections, as well as editing just for the bland version without music or sound effects, there is a very difficult session of hypnosis for Maggie Evans in which she sees her lives and understands her flashes of insight into who and what Barnabas Colllins means to her.

This is not a happy girl. I think that’s why Hansel Bachmeier is a fitting additive because it may allow her to go completely into realms of utter kick-ass in The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows on the chance anyone else messes with her during the series. (Hansel’s favourite curse word thus far when he talks to me is “Stier-shiste.” Nice, Mr. Bachmeier, nice.)

The pain of this episode looms before us in its darkness, as well as the loneliness I’ve felt in my two best helpers having so much trouble that I don’t hear from them. I need to know more about this woman, if not for her, but for the knowledge that we can share this experience of unraveling what, I’ve had to deduce, was where the series wanted to lead. But control of the story was removed from it’s creator, Dan Curtis, moving to what may have been preferred by the family of Hall. And I only suggest this because I listen to the characters and adhere the best that I can to the original story line, trying to solve problems rather than causing them.

I cannot use source material beyond the television show. I felt bad enough doing that for that tiny joke from a Marilyn Ross novel and made a very defined asterisk on that point. That “mod & way out” line was simply a great thing Carolyn Stoddard could likely have said. She is the most with-it hipster-lass of them all. If I used source material from Big Finish audio dramas that would conflict with what I’ve channeled in Caleb Collins who I believe is very accurate to the program in terms of a helper at any rate. I want this based on the television program alone as much as possible.

I also do this because I feel much of that newer material is based on the popularity of what the fans wanted rather than the content of what I see was originally being aimed for.

What continues to daunt me is how fragmented any other Josette=Maggie fan is I can find. They were pummeled for more years into a type of quietude. My more youthful lasses have this understanding so fresh in their minds they’ve taken notes and analyzed the whole relationship. But my sweetnesses are currently in danger and they are in trouble and I miss them terribly. I also pray for their safety.

But what is the shame of Barnabas Collins? Ah… I’ve had to explain this again and again to those who do not understand it. Barnabas is ashamed for having a single one-night-stand with a powerful woman who wreaked havoc on his entire family as a result. Ooo, he slept around ONCE! Yes it was the wrong dame… but BIG WHOOP! Why does everyone case on him?

Is it anything like THIS guy who bloody owns his slutty behaviour?

Quentin Collins

Or THIS guy who has spread his seed far and wide across the entire galaxy?

Captain James T. Kirk

So why are so many fans so damned hard on Barnabas Collins?

Because he admits to being in the wrong at times. His sensitive nature exists under his putrescent misdeeds and errors. He kidnapped Maggie Evans not for lustful needs. It was because he missed someone. And he missed her desperately. And he could not remember what had happened after over a century of being locked in a coffin. He mainly just felt it. I’d love to see someone else endure that agony better.

He wants to make his lost lady happy and live with her forever, as Dracula does, a specific lady with the same qualities. This is, of course, jagged and twisted and wrong to do in this manner, but the best part is in Maggie Evans saying, “I’m not her! I can’t be her!”

please I want us to be happy

No… of course she can’t. But like anyone who can’t wrap their minds beyond a single genre of entertainment: drama, comedy, romance, family, horror, etc… Is there not a way to engage in a mixture, which is what life is?

And this is his mistake: forcing, not asking, not requesting. And later he understands this and feels that guilt. The complexity is stronger with Barnabas Collins, and when people see that guilt the bully in them ignites. They won’t touch someone who says, “Yeah, I screw with people’s heads. I get-off on it.” Those types are too hot to handle.

However, a man who confesses to being in the wrong?

Oh… those bullies feed on that. And it’s much easier to kick down a complex fictional character who also happens to be an icon. And they ALL truly believe THEY know what’s best for him. That mommy-knows-best attitude. No asking the gentleman… just tell him.

But bullies do cast these same fires on real people. They do.

My family, my friends, my peers, the social organizations and institutions of schools and “guiding” adults: They did this to me most of my life, which is almost 4 decades long now.

I see what’s happening with Barnabas Collins.

It happened to me.

Now… even with the lack of support a comedienne generally requires from her audience, coupled with the bullied history…

Can you see why I have been so pissed?

And don’t even get me started on Willie Loomis…

Analysis OF Analysis of Preferred Pairings of Barnabas Collins…

I obviously hit some nerves on this so I think I should put this out there as to help explain why I wrote my 5th Analysis’ so others can understand it.

Well I certainly wish *I* was as popular as the goddess Julia Hoffman considering how my analysis’ of preferred pairings have been taken in emotional weirdness by at least three fans of hers rather than what it was supposed to be: an analysis not a spew of opinion. Not to mention Dr. Hoffman and I share that mould of sorting out problems and caring about Barnabas Collins whether we get the beloved duffer or not. (If I wanted him I would’a written my own Lt. Mary Sue stories. >:)

As I’ve said in the Victoria Winters pairing note, it was all likely to get misconstrued as a spew of opinion rather than a psychological analysis due to the obsessive nature of the Dark Shadowsfandom in general. What I wanted to put it out there for was to focus on some of the internal troubles a lot of fans were facing in being at odds with each other. Also, many fans preferences fall into where we stepped into the program. I stepped in before Barnabas entered while Jason was giving Elizabeth trouble. When I reached the point where Sam Evans was getting the worst of it that’s when I grabbed a notebook to sort it all out. Then I began researching the entire series as best I could with the little we had from Netflix, and various web pages. Lots of problem solving.

I only got into this to do “The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows” and find the fans that preferred it. “Margaret Josette Dupres” is a derivative I never planned. Anyway, this is why the Roxanne pairing makes sense to some fans of it because they stepped in around that time. Dark Shadows is over 1,200 episodes so people pop in at different points.

As for Angelique, at first I decided on Quentin because what I knew of him he just seemed to fit her. Then as I watched what I have of 1897 I saw them going for each other, truly. Quentin made the first move. Then as I went along Angelique really wanted him. But as DS is so good at they made it a battle of wits between them with her in a kind of similar “You have to marry me” model as like she did with Barnabas Collins. Then there is another part I saw where she’s actually arguing with Barnabas of all people about how much she loves Quentin and needs him and please to help her. WHY Barnabas would say no to this when it would OBVIOUSLY get HIM off the hook, I don’t know! LOL! Quentin had his eye on some other dame. That’s why I figure Angelique should get Quentin in the 1960’s after he’s done with all his other broads. LOL! 😀

Now I don’t think all Julia/Barnabas fans are the standard make of Julia fans for Barnabas. 🙂 I know they stepped into Dark Shadows later and I stepped in earlier. Again this moves us back to the realm of exposure and how exposure creates certain influences. The troubling factor in many Julia/Barnabas fans is that problem with majority rules. In fact I’m pretty worried I hit a nerve with a couple other writers when I pointed out appeasing their own readers because they know this pairing is so popular. To me that’s very unfair.

According to a number of fans I finally talked to Professor Stokes was interested in Julia Hoffman, whereas, again, I put them together because they fit. The trouble to me is more a personality conflict between Barnabas & Julia as far as romance goes. I didn’t see his reciprocation and outside of the TV show there is a little so, again, I believe it’s an appeasement to fans. Majority rules. But did Dan Curtis want to create Dark Shadows for the sake of conformity? Nope. He wanted something different. So when people make decisions based on popularity it irks me.

Also, the person I quoted who used even harsher words than I? That is a direct result of her having to put up with the Julia absolutists decades longer than I have been interested in Dark Shadows. Fans as such can make a lot of trouble on a thread because they have had to put up with things a lot of us can’t fathom. (I can empathise with this.) But rather than asking questions and getting calmer answers everyone went ape-poo-poo! Believe me. I had to calm them down. Twice. This problem has been going on longer than I have been alive. To me that’s scary and needs some pointing out just to get a more even percentage acceptable.

I LOVE that chik who posted the review on “The Whom of Many” chapter discussing the different elements that have been in place and why the pairing is so popular. I’m using problem-solving, not trying to determine right or wrong about this.

But this sparks interest in the pairing with Roxanne Drew. Why get another red-head when they already had one? Because as Barnabas’ character is he tends to become enamoured toward the personality set of youthful damsel whether in distress or not, with the kind of vitality of a softer gregarious nature. Julia is more analytical (as am I) and also bossy. Admirable qualities but not for Barnabas Collins unless scooped into an Alternate Universe creation which is what most people are doing.

Honestly? I’m a little concerned about some of the fans that are thankful for ME (as I am thankful for them) just because I’ve had to explain repeatedly that I wasn’t making my picks based on my own preferences. I made the choices I did because the characters desired them when I’ve internalized them and talked to them. My gift of “Margaret Josette Dupres” saving my marriage is a result of actually *becoming* those characters both in their depth of love and in their pain. (My latest intro explains how I do this.) I’m in this to solve the entirety not to create story after story. My Sailor Moon fiction of the past was fun. This work is painful and has seldom been fun. 😦

And yes, I know several feelings on Josette Dupres’ characters. Many fans of other Barnabas pairings say this over and over and over again: Josette is DONE, she’s DEAD, she’s OVER. Well, not if you interrupt the storyline and bring her back as a reincarnation as the Dark Shadows writers had planned to try and then gave up because it was too complicated. (Hence the earrings: Maggie didn’t get scared, she got spacey and determined about them and then blew Joe Haskell out of her life from his reaction.)

Kitty Soames was trying to fight off her reincarnation as Josette, I’ve watched those episodes several times. But as Josette, Kitty saw the wider realm of happiness that was set before her and could not say no. This was after leaving behind Edward’s massive engagement ring that she could have pawned for her snooty sensibilities, but Kitty/Josette cared enough to be honest about it. Then she goes to The Old House because as Josette she knows she has to confront these issues. Barnabas is there, he proposes marriage and she says yes, immediately. No question.

So that’s why in the 5th analysis I go over why the Maggie/Kitty/Josette fans are so complex. Their needs are not met because they want interruption stories and everyone else in Collinsport being okay, too, not just their preferred pairing. And who is complex enough to sort it out with all of the reincarnation? 🙂 Well, you know me… at least… I think you know me… *confused grin*

I hope it’s understood that I do care about all of the set in my nursery and not just the Barnabas/Maggie=Josette pairing. I REALLY want to get back to “The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows” so I can explore the other pairings as well. It’s just that Barnabas Collins is the big cake when it comes to Dark Shadows. So I don’t want to invalidate anyone. I’m an analytic therapist, very much like Julia. And I think her & I don’t mind only being Barnabas’ best friend on that point. I hope this explained everything enough. It’s more a complexity case then a preferences case on my end. 🙂

Thanks for reading… (if you could… I don’t get wordpress text weirdness sometimes…)
