Marriage Novel Inquiries

Aye, I still feel weird calling the novel “Margaret Josette Dupres” by “MJD” because it makes Maggie sound like a rap-star, but it looks like the abbreviation has stuck.

Anyway! I was delighted to receive some questions about it by email so I’d like to relay the answers I sent the other day.

The questions were good, along the lines of:

How is it Maggie is a vampire and did Barnabas change Maggie into one?

How is it they are walking around in the day and don’t need coffins?

Answers: The marriage novel came to me in flashes back in 2013. Glad you were spared the first draft! It was a mess. This is the second draft and much better. I wasn’t sure why they ended up as vampires initially. The wedding night threw itself at me one very surprising morning that autumn.

Then I figured it out! The daylight-walking vampirism will be a wedding gift from Lily Munster. Her and Grandpa Munster, who are vampires, walk around in the day time and can see themselves in mirrors. I also think she’ll do this while still in her norm-disguise in The Pit of Ultimate Dark Shadows. So when the vampirism transfers over they won’t be all pale like Lily usually is. 😀

Then I realised that if Barnabas and Josette/Maggie have been separated for nearly 200 Years they need a bit of immortality to make up for the time lost. So I’m planning that Lily will put the bite on Maggie to start and she’ll give that same bite to Barnabas, who is more than willing to be always under Josette’s spell. ❤

That’ll give having a child difficult, but somehow Lily had a werewolf son, so I worked that out, too. The Dracula-Munster genes are just wacky. ^_^ Then, when Barnabas and Maggie do have a child that child will eventually be faced with the “Tuck Everlasting” question! (To be immortal or to not be immortal?)

I want to add that I have long expected to hear the complaint of Lily Munster being the giver of this type of vampirism to be too corny or cheesy but I have never gotten that complaint. If someone groused about it on social media it never reached me.

(And of course that’s what that stuff is designed for. To wail complaints into a wilderness no one hears but the tech wizards. If you’re shocked by what you see about me or anyone else there? That’s what it’s built for: Shock-value to promote advertisement sales. I prefer an outlandish Marilyn Manson album, myself.)

I’m so glad she asked the questions! Very few people do. It’s frustrating having seen that for years. Emails are pretty simple from where I’m sitting. There are bits of the novel that need be re-written but I’m pacing myself and not worrying about that until the (hopeful) third draft. (That Willie toilet papering chapter was a great idea but needs a major re-write.)

And while I’m posting I just want to offer an “oops” on my latest Hoffman/Stokes romance drabble. I think it needs a re-write, but that was nagging me to finish and post just to have something on the Hoffman/Stokes romance level out there. It’s some slim pickins for that couple!

So, yes. Ask questions if you would like. I might not always have the answers but I can track them down. I am very glad the entry “On The Subject of Victoria Winters” keeps getting read. I know human-downgrading and the fracturing of psyches will be a tough thing to heal from, but I think we can do it. With these long-long narratives it might even be fun! ^_^

“Should” loves?

There it is folks. I don’t know what you want me to tell you.

Don’t come to me…

I mean… if you feel the need to argue with fictional characters about who they love or who they “should love”. Well? You don’t need me.

You need professional counselling.

Wish I could give that to you… but I think I’ve done all I can.

I don’t spend my time arguing with fictional characters about who they “should” love.

I tend to just listen to who they do love.

Same goes with real people.

I really don’t know what to tell you.

Maybe it’s like my siblings kept telling me: “I think you have too much time on your hands…”

[This could be true… especially when certain tech companies are doing their utmost to get you to waste time so they can use your time to sell advertisement revenue.]

Peace.

Goodbye, our dear Christopher Pennock

A very dear friend, Osheen Nevoy, has given me the sad news that Christopher Pennock has passed away.

He was very, very kind to me, as he was to her, in our journey through Dark Shadows fandom over the years. And I refuse, absolutely refuse, to give ANY credit, AT ALL, to any Silicon Valley or San Francisco Bay Area company for that!

I prefer to give the credit of Christopher Pennock’s generosity and kindness solely to HIM! Christopher Pennock was kind.

NOT the absurd glorifying of companies out to grab our attention to create advertising revenue online. No. I am glorifying Christopher Pennock instead!

He defended me in a moment of high school tomfoolery and he managed to lend support to several ideas in the pursuance of acting performance that I value highly, and always have.

As I understand, he has always been very kind to fans of Dark Shadows. This is something to be admired.

I fare thee well to my dear online friend, Christopher Pennock. I wish I could have met you in person and known you better. There is something to be said for people in the entertainment industry who care about their admirers… just as I have tried so very hard to do.

Love,

(2021 February): Letters, Writing and Sending Mail

This podcast is in a theme: Letter writing and sending mail…

We start from Episode One with Wadsworth’s letter to Barnabas Collins, the two discussing that, and go right on up into what has already been released. (Be a’skeered… be very a’skeered… Or… not…)

Stepping through each episode to reveal what is available in letter writing, my listeners shall see where this leads, including why episode four ventured issue with Seattle’s Space Needle. *wink*

Episodes: 5, 6, 7, and 8 explaining all the letter writing aspects of those…

Continuing on with further episodes up into #12 and why the mail is important with the cheque for The Parapsychology Foundation for Reincarnation Research…

As for Episode #14, it’s almost ALL about the mail…

A bit more about postal sendings in #15… then #17 between Willie Loomis and the Ghost of Sarah Collins. ❤

“That evil is wicked is well understood. The wicked are punished so you must be good.”

Then #18, #19, and #21, what little we have for this theme…

Updates for Osheen Nevoy’s fanwork and my own…  Special thanks to pen friends getting me out of the madness…

Thanks to humanetech.com, etc.

How hate has been manufactured for the 2012 ‘Dark Shadows’ movie… and:  for me. And then: How to deal with that. (I express in this podcast that the guilt is “preferable” for the sake, in this situation, you’d be’ responsible’ rather than ‘helplessly tricked’. Which is the better choice? Having no recourse or having been a little responsible?)

For pen friends and friends, in touch, who still read books and old books: Listen…

Long-Term-Narrative is far more important that we might have ever considered was important. ^_^

Ending with this Aztec Camera song, “We Could Send Letters”,  dedicated to my pen friends, (please purchase it if you enjoy it):

Just close your eyes again
Until these things get better
You’re never far away
But we could send letters

4 February 2021

I’m still here. I keep workin on stuff. It’s all pretty slow. There is a newer chapter of the marriage novel for those who enjoy that.

I’m currently a bit calmer but we have our troubles, of course. However with the knowledge I’ve found in trying to understand what was going wrong all these years, things feel better. It’s not nice to have consumers blamed for being steered toward choices they don’t like or want anyway. That’s not fair.

But it is nice to have been raised with the ideology that freedom-of-choice and free-will does exist in some capacity and some manner. We just have to find our own and the contentment of those choices that go along with it.

Feel free to write here, or by email, or by mail, or call, my friends.

take care,

Daryl
